Everyone knows that dogs are voracious eaters. We know that our four legged friends are not very discriminate eaters. Dogs would not pass up the chance to eat even indigestible objects. The pampered pooch that is provided by a doting owner with pricey high quality dog food would eat poop. Vets and anybody that have the expertise in raising dogs would tell us that dogs and chicken bones are not good combinations. Thus, if you have a bucket of KFC to munch on while watching Avatar, you better make sure that the dog is in another room.
You may have prevented the dog from eating the forbidden chicken bones but the fact is – you cannot have your eyes glued to the beloved pooch at all times. What if the dog has raided the trash can and ingested the bucket full of chicken bones? Of course you cannot ask the dog to throw up the bones it has ingested. You simply need to monitor the “things” that goes out of the dog’s rear end.
Dogs have this peculiar predilection for dogs. Bones are in fact buried and considered as treasures by the dog.. What potential dangers do chicken bones have for the dog? Cooking makes chicken bones brittle. Because chicken bones are brittle, they can break easily when chewed by the dog and became potentially dangerous when ingested. The sharp shards can get stuck on the mouth or pierce the throat of the dog too. Chicken thigh bones are especially unsafe to be ingested by the dog. The long and hard drumstick bones would break into many needle sharp splinters that would be more dangerous if swallowed by the dog.
Observe the behavior of a dog that has eaten chicken bones. If the bones have punctured the mouth, the stomach, and the intestines or have created a blockage, the dog would be listless and would be kind of moody. Examine the stool. Take the dog to the vet if you noticed a bloodied stool or if the dog finds it hard to pass stool.
Ingested chicken bones are usually excreted with the feces. A double ration will not only “cushion” the bones but the additional food intake will encourage the dog’s system to pass more stools. Induce the dog to vomit by giving a can of pumpkin. And hope that the bones will be vomited by the dog .
