American Kennel Club

american kennel club
Dogs are assigned to a specific group based on the purpose for which the dog was originally bred or has been used for historically. From large and powerful working dogs meant to serve as guards, to tiny toy breeds for companionship, dogs span a wide range of sizes and attributes. If a miscellaneous dog breed demonstrates enough interest and growth, it will be entered in the AKC stud book and eventually admitted to a regular group.
Once this full membership has been granted, the dog breed is allowed to compete in all AKC events such as Obedience, Lure Coursing, Agility, etc. In a conformation dog show, dogs are judged by experts against a specific dog breed standard for such characteristics as size, color, gait and temperament. Interested in learning more about any particular dog breed group, or specific dog breed? Want to learn even more about the dog breeds of the AKC?
For the uninitiated, the words “AKC Dog Breed” might be confusing. This club holds obedience competitions and dog shows, maintains dog standards and registers puppies of AKC-recognized breeds. There are over 100 different dog breeds registered with the AKC.
There are eight different types of AKC dog breeds, including the Hound Group, the Sporting Group, the Working Group, the Non-Working Group, the Toy Group and the Terrier Group. Each dog competes within their group and within its breed during competitions.
Next, the Sporting Group is active, hard-working dogs. The Golden Retriever and Cocker Spaniel are dogs belonging to the Sporting Group.
Although AKC is the most well-known club in USA, there are other clubs like the United Kennel Club, the American Canine Association, the Canine Kennel Club and the North American Purebred Dog Registry.
British dogs, for example, go through the Kennel Club, while Australian dogs are registered in the Victorian Canine Association and Canadian dogs apply to the Canadian Kennel Club.

Dog Island its’n True?

dogs island
Over 2,500 dogs are already enjoying a better life at Dog Island. Separated from the anxieties of urban life, dogs on Dog Island are healthy dogs who live a natural, healthy and happy life, free from the stress and hardship associated with daily live among humans. They live with almost limitless space, and tens of thousands of rabbits, rodents, fish and other natural prey. Surrounded by thousands of other dogs, this is the only place for them to be truly social and create healthy families. Dogs at Dog Island have another chance. The Dog Island refers to a complex set of islands that have different purposes and areas. While Dog Island is almost entirely free range territory for the dogs to enjoy, there are 5 critical facilities built on and near the island complex.
- Immunization and Naturalization Center
- Health & Fitness Boot Camp Dog Training Center
- Wildlife Behavioral Recovery Center
- Family Building Mentoring Center
- Injury and Trauma Recovery Center
The Complex of Islands Dog Island is actually made up of quite a few different islands, a complex of them. They are so beautiful. We get excited on every boat ride.
- Mega Dog Island : This is a vast island, the biggest one. Dogs of medium size and up are all extremely happy here. We keep the extremely large dogs to an island of their own, but this is basically where all of the normal dogs go.
- Huge Dogs Island : There are very few dogs that need this type of attention. The dogs on this island are not aggressive, but they would be if they were with dogs that were not in their own category.
- Tiny Dogs Island : The miniatures are the most complex and fragile. We have special facilities to attend to their needs. While all of them are completely sick of being condescended upon, being called princess and angel and being put in pink — they do also need quite a few comforts. They are given nesting sites through out what is a very small island.
The most interesting things have happened!! They are beginning to create sub socities in the trees. They are very hard to count, but are very happy. The island is full of grasshoppers and other little munchies which they go crazy for.
